Welcome to Michigan Catholic Radio

This is a special message for our MCR listeners.

As most of you know by now, Michigan Catholic Radio ended its regular program schedule on July 31st due to many factors related to the sale of station WCAR.

The volunteers at MCR are working to bring you your favorite local programs via internet streaming and we hope to have that service available very soon.  Please check our website at www.catholicradio.org frequently to keep up on the status of this service.

In the meantime, we will be broadcasting archived programming and some EWTN programming over WCAR for another week or so. Unfortunately, we will not be able to bring you the daily Mass from the Shrine or the Drew Mariani program during this interim period but most of the local programs you came to enjoy will be available on a random schedule.  We hope that this will help ease the pain that we all are experiencing over the loss of this service that for 11years has been part of the fabric of the Archdiocese of Detroit.

Please bear with us as we transition to an new era of service using the Media to Bring Christ To The People and People To Christ.

TO ALL MCR LISTENERS
As noted in our earlier message below, WCAR-1090, the station over which

we have been broadcasting 24 hours per day, has been sold. For a variety of

reasons, Michigan Catholic Radio (MCR) must terminate its over-the-air

broadcasting on July 31 thus ending our 11 year presence on WCAR.

This is not the end of MCR but will result in a gap in our broadcast service.

We are actively pursuing other options on another station. In the interim, we will be

“streaming” archived programming over this web site (click-on “listen live”) 24 hours

per day. It may take us a few weeks to get this feature operational but please

check-in here on this page for regular updates.

MCR will enter a new phase in its development and may return with a

heavier emphasis on internet-based media and/or broadcasting over a new, more

powerful station.

All of the volunteers at MCR are newly encouraged to expand our

apostolate with its Mission to Evangelize, Catechize, Inform and Inspire through the

use of media.

We thank you for your past support and hope that you will continue

supporting our activities; especially by keeping us in your prayers as we re-invent

ourselves. You can communicate with us best via the website or by mail to the

address below.

God Bless!

UPDATE ON MICHIGAN CATHOLIC RADIO

On June 18, Michigan Catholic Radio formally advised the management of 1090 Investments, LLC, owner of WCAR, that it was withdrawing its offers to purchase WCAR and other assets of 1090 Investments. This effectively terminates MCR’s pursuit of the control/ownership of WCAR that it had sought for the past 9 months.  The proposed sale of WCAR and WOAP to Birach Broadcasting Corp. will likely be consummated upon FCC approval of the transaction in the near future.

This action was taken by the Directors of MCR when it became clear that any possibility of acquiring WCAR had been effectively blocked by the sellers for reasons known best to them.  The further pursuit of the acquisition by MCR would likely have created a litigious environment which would not have been beneficial to any of the parties, the Church, or Catholic Radio.

We are now in discussions with the principal of Birach Broadcasting about the possibility of entering into a long term agreement which would allow MCR to continue its service via WCAR; other options are also being considered. No schedule has been established for the completion of these efforts. Depending upon the outcomes of these activities, it may become necessary for MCR to terminate its broadcasting service either temporarily or permanently.

Please continue to keep us in your prayers especially directed to the Divine Mercy and to the Holy Spirit that we may be guided to act appropriately and in accordance with God’s will as we pursue our objective of saving Michigan Catholic Radio.  We also need you to continue your financial support during this period.

For the Board of Directors,

John FX Browne, President
